Why Medibolics?

What is the motivation to publish a newsletter that covers controversial areas of medical research that include anabolic steroids and experimental and nontraditional medical therapies? Well, this newsletter actually started out as an informal communiqué to AIDS researchers. However, the information we will be presenting here has the potential to go far beyond AIDS. The place in medicine for progressive information about advanced nutrition, the therapeutic use of anabolic steroids and other similar compounds, and various "unapproved" pharmaceuticals, will with time, be applicable to almost every part of society, from the aging person, to the AIDS patient, to the bodybuilder who is trying to stay healthy. As the future unwinds, Medibolics will cover AIDS-related wasting therapy and the importance of recovering and building lean muscle mass, remedies to the hazards of a bodybuilding lifestyle, andropause and menopause therapy, slowing the aging process, progressive nutrition, and it will take a good look at unusual approaches to other medical therapies. The real impetus for publishing Medibolics is the sizable information vacuum that is present right now in these areas.

When the idea to publish Medibolics came to me, I at first faltered at the incredible challenge of researching these uncharted areas. However, before I could hesitate I was urged on by Nelson Vergel, a person who commands a lot of influence with me. Nelson, who is one the contributors to Medibolics, is the quintessence of a person who is benefiting from what I consider to be some of the most effective and controversial AIDS therapies. With his enthusiastic support and encouragement, I couldn't begin to refuse to make this effort.

New York AIDS/Steroids Conference
The need to chart these waters was underlined on May 17th, when I attended the conference on "Wasting Therapies and AIDS" in New York, where seven medical experts presented the most up-to-date information on anabolic steroid therapy, growth hormone, and nutrition to about 500 people, many who are living with AIDS. As I listened, I found myself vacillating between elation and disappointment as it became apparent that some of the information I think has the potential to save lives right now, had no chance of being presented that evening. Cutting edge science that might save patients lives today couldn't be detailed because medical doctors are trained, with good reason, to be extremely conservative about releasing information that is still "preliminary" and not proven. The only speaker who could say anything extremely progressive (that steroids might benefit the immune system) was Dr. Walter Jekot, and that's because he has always been willing to go where his conscience pushed him (sometimes to his own detriment). That's one reason I was very happy when Dr. Jekot was the second person to agree to write for Medibolics. The other, and perhaps more important reason, is that Dr. Jekot is the person who discovered that anabolic steroids are therapeutic for AIDS and Dr. Jekot has a tremendous amount of clinical experience with anabolic steroids for AIDS patients and bodybuilders.

You can trust that with progressive writers like Dr. Walter Jekot and Nelson Vergel, Medibolics will be attempting to "push the envelope forward" and present the information that has potential to save lives even before the information is clinically proven. After diligent research, and in some cases, after the accumulation of significant anecdotal evidence, Medibolics will offer the information to you the reader, to make up your own mind as to its value. Hopefully, this will help diligent medical practitioners, like the speakers at the New York AIDS Conference achieve the rapid progress they strive for, too.
