Built To Survive - Book Testimonials:

Comments From Someone Who is HIV(-)

Hi Michael, I trust that this finds you well.

I wrote to you a couple of weeks ago asking if you felt that the information in Built To Survive would be useful for a non-HIV person wishing to increase their quality of life and longevity. On your response I ordered a copy from the Houston Buyers' Club and despite living in the UK I received my copy within four days. I did my usual thing and had a couple of quick reads through before sitting down for a proper read. When you said that I would find a lot of information on hormonal therapy and nutrition that I wouldn't find elsewhere you weren't joking.

That's not to say that I didn't learn anything from the first few chapters because, embarrassingly, HIV and related issues were never something that I read much about or researched. I do feel that these first few chapters have given me an entirely new understanding and perspective of these problems. For this alone the book was worth ten times the cost.

Moving on through the sections on lipodystrophy, steroid therapy and nutrition I was even more impressed. Insulin resistance was never something that I really considered to be a personal problem, but this chapter gave me some new insight. Although I have been consuming a fairly isocaloric diet (also trying to make each of six meals isocaloric) for a while now (with great results), I have still been consuming grains three times a day. Since reading the book a week ago I have begun to phase out the grains in favor of vegetables. I'm keeping track of my energy etc and will let you know how I get on after a couple of months.

I've also begun to implement many of your micronutrient recommendations. I always have taken these with an extra emphasis on vitamins C and E, but vitamins are just so damned expensive in this country that it has been hard to know which to prioritize after these two.

I have also been considering beginning hormonal therapy for a while now, since my natural gains have started to dry up - I'm 6' 3" and 252 at around 13% body fat (I intend to lose about 12 pounds of fat before I begin therapy). Previous to reading your book I would have been in favor of a shorter course (8 weeks) coming in at the maximum dosage and tapering off during the last couple of weeks. I think I will, however, try your recommendations - after all I'm trying to improve my well being, not gain forty pounds of mass. I would never consider steroid therapy without having drugs at my disposal to help get my HPGA back in order - although again I would have done it slightly differently, but I feel that I will use your suggestions.

In conclusion, the book is worth its weight in gold. There are so many people out there who would benefit from this information. I just need to look around my gym - there are bodybuilders, supposedly the epitome of health and fitness, taking loads of gear, eating like crap, and looking like crap. One can only imagine what their insides are like.

Thanks once again for a wonderful source of information. If there is anything that I can do to help promote your excellent book let me know.

Comments From People Who Are HIV(+)

To whom it may concern:

I was able to prevent lipodystrophy by using exercise with Oxandrin and testosterone supplements, but with Graveīs disease, I finally lost all that I had gained in the battle against it.

But I am very resilient. Oxandrin was the baby gun and it worked fine for several years, but right now I am in conversation with my doctor to start a cycle of Deca Durabolin. I bought the book called Built to Survive through the Houston Buyers' Club (1-800-350-2392) that explains the right way to do it. This time Iīm getting the big gun out. I have always saved big guns for a time when I would need them. Well...the time is now!

Armed with this book, I went to see my doctor. I didnīt even need to argue the potential benefits with him because he was so impressed by the fact that somebody took the time to write about the use of anabolic steroids for HIV(+) people. A book so well explained and sooooo very well researched. I would not stand in front of any doctor and request this type of therapy without something like this book to back me up. It would be like standing against a wall and hearing ...fire!

I will get a body fat analysis and all medical test necessary and keep a clear update on the results to report to Lipidlist. I think itīs going to be interesting for the sake of fighting lipodystrophy ..... remember guys? Lipodystrophy.

Peace, Eduardo -- eduardo@primenet.com

PS. By the way, the book I mentioned was written by two people that write on the Lipidlist: You all know Nelson Vergel and, by now, you should know Michael Mooney. Tremendous job. Thank you guys!

Re: Gratitude

Nelson and Michael,

I really need to thank you.

I received "Built to Survive" and have been reading it with meticulous focus. I even took vacation days yesterday and today to continue my focus.

I live in a rural area where information is minimal and doctor's beliefs seem to be "give him a pill and maybe he will get better." One doctor uses AZT as the only treatment in this day and age. How medieval!

I utilized the telephone number on page 127 for the Houston Buyers' Club and located a doctor about an hour away by train who supports your findings and approach. I was extremely moved and almost cried out of joy when talking to their office. Why? For the fact of locating a doctor that seems promising in my quest for optimum health and care.

I just want to thank you both for what you have done in putting out this publication and making it available to people like myself.

God Bless,

Michael Fitzpatrick

Nelson,

I just received your book and had a couple questions about the gym. I joined about two weeks ago and have been going three times a week, doing about three exercises for each body part each day. Should I follow the routine in your book and if so, can I, or should I do more than one exercise per body part? Is working each muscle only once a week really enough? I know that's what the book says but it sounds to good to be true.

I'm in good health except about 30 lbs overweight. I also wanted to say thanks to you and Michael, I found your web site a couple months and it got me motivated to get my shit together. I had stopped going to my doctor in July and was just waiting for AIDS to run its course and die.

Thanks to all of you at PoWeR, I realize that I can have a good, long healthy life. I started seeing Dr. Larry Bruni in DC in early January and started on a new cocktail.

After just two weeks my viral load went from 250,000 to 12,000 and I'm sure it will be undetectable when I get my next labs back.

If I had not discovered your web site I know that I would still be just laying in front of the TV waiting to die, so all I can say is THANK YOU. That seems like so little to say, but it's all I've got, so thanks again and may God bless.

Marty in VA
